After winning The New European Bauhaus Prizes 2023 via the CREATIVE FACTORY SHOP ( New European Bauhaus Rising Stars' - Shaping a circular industrial ecosystem and supporting life-cycle thinking' category ) , ABOUT A WORKER was invited to organize an upcycling workshop for the many visitors of the New European Bauhaus Festival 2024 ! More than 200 people joined the event within two afternoons .

About the upcycling pouch workshop

Inspired by the Creative Factory Shop’s concept, this new workshop gave visitors the possibility to create their own unique leather accessory with dead stocks and upcycled materials from European companies. The idea was for the participants, to discover leather crafting basic skills in a couple of minutes.

STEP 1 : CHOOSE YOUR LEATHER

Over the last years, ABOUT A WORKER has collected leather and materials from different companies in Europe. During the workshop, we offered our leftovers to visitors. Many colorful materials were on site to be chosen and used for free.

STEP 2 : USE PATTERNS BY ABOUT A WORKER

ABOUT A WORKER has imagined different easy to use patterns to produce pencil cases, business cards wallets and coin purses ! During the workshop, the patterns were available as open source materials ! Visitors learned how to cut leather by creating flat resources.

STEP 3 : embellish your leather shape

With our cute tiny iron and flex material leftovers, people could embellish their leather freely. The embellishing gave everyone (youngsters and adults) the possibility to express themselves how they wanted ! They leather piece became their own statement piece
