AMERICAN VINTAGE X ABOUT A WORKER @ HYÈRES FESTIVAL 38TH
What a crazy month! ABOUT A WORKER was invited by AMERICAN VINTAGE to organize a three days workshop around upcycling values for HYÈRES FESTIVAL 2023. Since 1986, the festival has been promoting and supporting young international fashion designers and emerging photographers. The festival is acknowledged as the oldest fashion competition aimed at young professionals. During the weekend, visitors of the festival could make their dream denim accessory with us while exploring the many exhibitions and show going on inside the Villa Noailles.
ABOUT THE DENIM HISTORY
Jeans were born in the Mediterranean basin, just like denim fabric. During the 15th century, sailors in Mediterranean ports realized that cotton canvas was effective for making sails. In order to work more efficiently, sailors made pants from old ship sails. The long history of jeans begins in Nîmes, where denim fabric was made. This canvas is characterized by an indigo blue warp thread and an ecru weft thread.
AMERICAN VINTAGE FOR EVERYBODY
The aim of the project was for every visitor to create their dream fanny pack or bob hat, for free, with denim dead stocks from American Vintage. While particpants could become AMERICAN VINTAGE X ABOUT A WORKER’s designers, we wanted them to understand the different steps behind upcycled accessories ! More than 200 people created their unique accessory with us over these 2 days on site at Villa Noailles.
