ABOUT A WORKER - SHENZHEN

Discover ABOUT A WORKER X SHENZHEN / UABB, designed  by five ex sweatshop workers from Bao’an district for the Shenzhen Bi City Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture . 

Bao’an district is a worker village surrounded by clothing factories and  situated two hours from Shenzhen city center. As ABOUT A WORKER was invited to participate in BI-City Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture, our team decided to collaborate with locals from the exhibition district. We had the chance to team up with 5 women currently producing clothes from home for different clothing factories. Issued from Chinese rural immigration, these women have arrived in Shenzhen 15 Years ago. Today their district is about get demolished. They worry they will have to flee the city soon,  as Shenzhen is constantly developing and becoming unaffordable to live in.

For ABOUT A WORKER / UABB we asked our collaborators to deconstruct and reconstruct green local uniforms in order to showcase their vision of Shenzhen’s transformations.
