LA REDOUTE X ABOUT A WORKER // THE CREATIVE PROCESS //
LA REDOUTE followed ABOUT A WORKER’s experimental initiative, of giving workers the possibility to become designers. For this collaboration ABOUT A WORKER co-created a collection with KARINE SORIS, JOSETTE SENECHAL, PHILLIPE STEVENS, ISABELLE DA SILVA, VERONIQUE PLANCKE, CHRISTIANE DESCHEEMAEKE, workers from La Redoute’s logistic center ( Quai 30 ), situated in Wattrelos, France. For one year we had the chance to bring the workers, their superiors and the creative directors at the same working table. To develop the collection we asked the workers/designers to re-imagine their uniform collectively. We initially asked them to add pockets, zips, reflecting stripes, in order to make their uniforms more practical within their working life. Over the creative process, the workers manifested the need of turning their uniform into clothes they could feel valued in and wear proudly. We kept the practical key elements from the first prototypes, and transformed the uniform aspect into elegant pieces.
