L’ACADÉMIE DU CLIMAT

We have been invited to host a public workshop at L’ Académie du Climat” a new institution conceived by the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo last September. We were super happy to be part of the adventure for the first month of the inauguration. “L’Académie du Climat” , situated in the old city hall of the 4th district in Paris, is dedicated to expose new sustainable alternatives for tomorrow in every domain : wether its for housing, gardening, transporting, cooking, designing or wearing.

ABOUT THE COLLAB

We were asked to collaborate with “L’ Académie du Climat” to design a clothing collection. Our concept was to give “L’Académie du Climat” ‘s visitors de possibility to become the designers of a collective collection. Check out how the creative process happened below!

1) What’s your Ideal World?

For the whole month of September, ABOUT A WORKER invaded the whole “Manufacture” space at “L’Académie du Climat'“ with two big rolls of unfolded fabrics. The visitors were invited to represent their dream vision of tomorrow’s World, with fabric pen, fabric deadstocks from our workplace, flex, needles and threads. Visitors from 6 to 66 years old participated! For most of them, this time was a true moment of meditation, exploration and creation.

2) From a collective fabric to a collective collection

To cut, assemble and sew the fabrics together, we asked a team of 10 seamstresses (part of a couture association financed by the city of Paris) to use our workwear patterns and create a collection out of them. They deconstructed and reconstructed our original patterns to create 12 unique outfits exposing the visitors vision of an ideal World

PERFORMANCE AT NUIT BLANCHE 21

We were invited by “L’Académie du Climat” to host a performance during the “Nuit Blanche 2021”. We scouted 12 people with awesome personalities to become models for our collection : Artists, Activists, Seamstresses took part of it ! The collection is still exposed at “L’Académie du Climat” ‘s honour entrance, come check it out!
